We came to Palermo for one festival… but the city had other plans ??
After weeks of quiet mountain roads, tiny Sicilian towns, and life slowing down in Santo Stefano di Camastra, we took the train to Palermo for the Festa di Santa Rosalia.
We thought we knew what to expect.
We were wrong.

Within minutes of arriving, we were swept into a completely different Sicily.
The streets were louder.
The energy was higher.
Music echoed through every alley.
Smoke drifted through the markets.
The city felt alive in every direction.
One moment we were eating fresh calamari in the famous markets.
The next, we were being carried through a sea of thousands of people.

We explored Palermo’s chaotic streets, searched for antique tiles and furniture for our dream house, escaped the heat with gelato and Aperol Spritz, and slowly realised that this city has a rhythm entirely of its own.
It’s messy.
It’s beautiful.
It’s overwhelming.
It’s impossible to ignore.
And somehow, despite all the warnings we’d heard before arriving, we felt completely welcomed.

As the sun went down, the crowds grew bigger.
Families filled the streets.
Music played from every corner.
Fireworks exploded above the city.
And suddenly, we understood why Santa Rosalia means so much to Palermo.
This wasn’t just a festival.
It was the city showing us who it really is.

But honestly, we didn’t mind.
Because sometimes the best moments happen when the plan falls apart.
