This is the story of Cremica, one of India's most successful hidden food companies. Most people have never heard its name, yet there's a good chance you've eaten its products at some of the world's biggest fast-food chains.
The journey began in the 1970s when Rajni Bector, a homemaker from Ludhiana, started baking cakes, buns, and ice creams in her own backyard. As word spread, neighbors and local customers kept placing more orders. Seeing her passion, her husband encouraged her to turn the hobby into a business.
In 1978, she officially started Cremica.
The early years were far from easy. The business struggled with pricing issues and low profits, but Rajni refused to compromise on quality. Instead, she focused on improving recipes, maintaining consistency, and earning customer trust. Slowly, a small home bakery grew into a full-scale manufacturing business.
The biggest breakthrough came in 1996.
When McDonald's entered India, it needed a local supplier that could manufacture burger buns matching its strict global quality standards. Many companies failed the evaluation, but Cremica succeeded. That single partnership transformed the company's future.
To meet international standards, Cremica invested heavily in modern factories, advanced technology, and quality control. Over time, global food brands began trusting the company, making it one of India's largest food ingredient and bakery suppliers.
Today, Cremica manufactures more than 12 lakh burger buns every day, supplies products to over 5.5 lakh outlets, and has grown into a business worth around ₹5,000 crore. What started as a small backyard bakery has become one of the hidden companies powering India's fast-food industry.
