BUDAPEST BEER FEST – Hungarian Food & 100-Year-Old Strudel Recipe

Join me for a Budapest food and beer tour, starting at a lively beer festival before discovering traditional Hungarian dishes and desserts around the city.
*Liberty Square Beer Festival*
I begin at the beer festival in Budapest’s Liberty Square, where numerous large and small beer producers have gathered. The selection ranges from well-known names such as Budvar and Paulaner to local Hungarian craft breweries. I explore the festival, try several different beers and check out the wide variety of food, including burgers, Hungarian sausages, grilled meat, pork shank, potato pancakes and other traditional favourites.
*Roth Bar & Kitchen*
My next stop is completely unplanned. I visit Roth Bar & Kitchen and enjoy a perfectly prepared bowl of Hungarian goulash soup. For dessert, I try Somlói galuska, a traditional Hungarian layered dessert and a great way to finish the evening.
*Strudel Heritage*
The following morning begins at the Strudel Heritage, where the strudels are prepared using a 100-year-old family recipe. This could be some of the best rétes in Budapest, with fillings including poppy seed, cabbage, plum and sour cherry. Every slice is fresh, generously filled and full of flavour.
*Klauzál Café & Restaurant*
My final stop is Klauzál Café & Restaurant, a hidden and relaxed restaurant serving traditional Hungarian food. I come specifically for the chicken paprikash, and it doesn’t disappoint. The meal finishes with a Gundel pancake, another classic Hungarian dessert and the perfect ending to this Budapest beer and food tour.
