48H in KRAKOW - Full Polish Food Tour - Pierogi, Zapiekanka & Old Market

Join me for 48 hours in Kraków, exploring Polish street food, traditional dishes and local favourites.
*Plac Nowy*
The journey begins at Plac Nowy, where the famous zapiekanka shops serve freshly baked, open-faced baguette sandwiches straight through their windows.
*Pijana Wiśnia*
My next stop is Pijana Wiśnia for a cherry liqueur with a gentle alcoholic kick. Live music and a delicious drink make this a very good place to stop by.
*Żabka | Prosto z pieca*
Next, I visit a Polish institution: Żabka! This time, I’m trying something simple and inexpensive—a hot dog with mustard. It’s a quick taste of everyday local life, and surprisingly delicious.
*Bar Smak*
A quick hop across the road brings me to Bar Smak for a comforting bowl of żurek, the traditional Polish sour rye soup. Alongside it, I enjoy pierogi filled with sauerkraut and mushrooms. Simple dishes, full of flavour, and a memorable introduction to traditional Polish cooking.
*Stary Kleparz*
The following morning starts at Stary Kleparz, a historic market dating back to the 14th century that still holds on to its local charm. I explore stalls filled with regional cheeses, smoked and cured meats, Polish sausages, and fresh fruit and vegetables.
*Plackarnia „Syta Mysz” | Śniadania & Obiady*
My next stop is a modest local favourite serving some seriously satisfying food. I try a traditional potato pancake served over beef in horseradish sauce—a wonderful combination of textures and flavours, and possibly my favourite meal in Kraków so far!
*Kiełbaski z Niebieskiej Nyski*
Dinner takes me to the famous blue Nysa van for one of Kraków’s classic street food experiences. Polish sausages sizzle over an open flame before being served freshly grilled. Inexpensive, delicious and full of smoky flavour, this much-loved stop lives up to my expectations.
*Piętka Piekarnia Rzemieślnicza – Bistro*
The next morning begins at this artisan bakery and bistro. Choice of fresh breads, pastries, cakes and breakfast selection. I choose their chorizo and poached egg breakfast.
*Jadłodajnia U Stasi*
For lunch, I head to U Stasi, tucked away in the heart of the city centre. This hidden spot serves affordable, comforting Polish food, and I try pork goulash with salad and a glass of kompot, a traditional fruit drink.
*Cukiernia Czarodziej*
Time for a well-deserved dessert! This modern-looking pastry shop serves a selection of mostly traditional Polish cakes, and I try three different ones. The kremówka, with its layers of pastry and creamy filling, is my clear winner.
*MIŁA Bar Mleczny 7*
For a bonus stop, I visit another Polish institution: a bar mleczny, or milk bar. These casual eateries serve freshly prepared, home-style meals on a budget. My visit is busy, hectic and delicious, and I enjoyed it.
