I traveled to Urumqi, China to see what life is really like in one of the country's most talked-about cities.
After landing at the impressive Urumqi airport, I took a taxi to a surprisingly modern and affordable hotel before heading out to explore the city. Along the way, I sampled local street food, wandered through busy neighborhoods, and got a firsthand look at everyday life in Xinjiang.
Urumqi is famous for its incredible food culture, blending Central Asian, Uyghur, and Chinese influences. From delicious local dishes to vibrant streets, this city offered a completely different experience than I expected.
Western media often paints a certain picture of Xinjiang, so I wanted to visit and see it for myself. In this video, I share my honest observations and experiences exploring Urumqi as a foreign traveler.
